The Canadian Orpheus Male Choir (COMC) is administrated by a team of volunteers on the Management Committee (MC), who apply their collective abilities to helping the choir run as smoothly as possible. They put the choir’s best interests first, upholding the choir’s constitution and by-laws, and abiding by the rules that govern registered Canadian charities. The MC ensures not only that the COMC achieves its vision of being a premier male-voice choral singing group, but also that the choir serves its members and the greater Hamilton community well.

MC members are instated by members’ vote at the Annual General Meeting or another meeting where a quorum is present. The President, Secretary, and Treasurer are Executive members — officially assuming responsibility for the choir on documentation filed with the government. The Music Director and Accompanist are ex officio members, retained by the choir on a contract basis for musical expertise.

COMC Members are always welcome to attend MC meetings, held 10 times per year, usually from 7pm to 9pm on the third or fourth Wednesday of the month. Members should check with the Secretary to find out the upcoming meeting agenda as well as to confirm the meeting location and time, in case of changes. MC meeting minutes are posted for Members to read in the rehearsal room and in the Members’ Zone on the website.

It is true that many hands make light work… The COMC is fortunate to have members who step up to take care of business, such as Rod Roberts, who is Chair of the Concert Tour Committee, Howard Davis who acts as our “Ticket Master”, and Winston White, who is the choir’s de facto internal Communications Officer, making sure that choristers receive important information by email… and many others. Our choristers regularly volunteer on committees and ad hoc working groups in addition to singing in their tenor, baritone and bass sections. Choir members and their spouses help the COMC complete the tasks that make our performances and other activities successful and enjoyable.
